Carlos Maurer

Position: EVP, Sectors & Decarbonisation and EVP, Global Commercial; Royal Dutch Shell

As Shell’s Global Commercial Executive Vice President, Carlos Maurer is responsible for Shell’s business-to-business organisation of over 8,000 people serving more than 1 million direct and indirect customers in 150 markets through our global Lubricants, Aviation and Specialities (Bitumen and Sulphur) businesses. Carlos also has responsibility for bringing the full capabilities from across Shell to help our customers decarbonise sector by sector.

Carlos started his career in the energy industry working in operations and sales development roles throughout the United States and Latin America. He joined Shell in 1997 in New Business Development at the Deer Park Refining Limited Partnership, and was most recently Vice President, Shell Lubricants Americas from 2017 to 2019. Carlos gained strategy, marketing and general management experience in the Shell group commercial businesses (including Lubricants, Bitumen and Sulphur), Downstream and Upstream operations, and Joint Ventures. He has led regional and global businesses and been based in the United States, the Netherlands, France, the United Kingdom and currently Singapore. Carlos has extensive experience managing joint ventures serving as director and Shell shareholder representative for ventures in the United States, Europe, Middle East and China. Carlos was responsible for the delivery of Shell’s separation from Motiva Enterprises.

Carlos holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Rice University in Houston, as well as a BSc in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University. He is married with three children.
